You can expand outward gradually from there and you should have an idea of a rough general direction to begin. A compass from the local hardware store will come in handy here! Dont handle the conductors of the wireless antenna when searching for a signal! If you do you will throw your readings off and get confusing results! What you need most is patience! Your cell phone needs to contact the tower and get feedback from it to see what is there. Your phone is trying to establish whether a stable connection can be found and this could take a minute or two. If I can do this then so can you!
