About this website and how this information can help you.
This website is here to help you understand the similarities between my shortwave radio set and my cell phone. Both are relevant to helping you understand how your phone works! They both had the need for an antenna and an amplified signal to get connected and to stay connected! Well I was going to find out more about cell phone antennas. Just one problem, there weren't many places selling cell phone antennas!
No problem I thought, I'll just use an old over the roof TV antenna! After all I knew the cell towers weren't going anywhere. All I should have to do was aim it correctly.
Well it worked a bit better than I thought!
After experimenting with different antennas, I noticed the indiustry was beginning to grow and i bought a couple of cell phone antennas and not only did they do nothing, they relieved me of my cash!
It became apparent that anything was being marketed as an antenna and the only reason my old TV antenna worked as well as it did was because I took the time to learn about how cell phone signals travel. There is another good reason for this website.
My older bag phone had a full 3 watts of output power and the TV antenna acted somewhat like a Yagi! Then things started going digital and the background knowledge of antennas changed somewhat.
Now it has been my experience that problems related to your cell phone like dropped calls, garbled communications, slow connectivity and speeds, and errors with data transfer and downloading all have one thing in common.
85% of those issues related directly to the cell phone antenna and available signal strength!
All types of mobile phone service were affected by this phenomenon! It didn't matter who your service provider was!
At some point your phone will work great in one area and just lose call after call in another! I'm going to show you how to put the odds in your favor and help you eliminate dropped calls and other problems.

Keep in mind that I cannot get into the individual problems you could be having with your cell phone or service provider on this website. Those problems are best handled by your service provider or the manufacturer of your phone.
But we can help you with issues about your connectivity!
Make a note of this too!
We do not condone or encourage the modification of any equipment to boost your signal power by more than 3 watts from using any of the information on this website! Not only is having power greater than 3 watts illegal and will get you into trouble with the law, it won't help as much as you think!
Even if you could boost your power up to 50 watts, let's say, your cell phone service at the tower still wants a response from your phone in a certain amount of time. If you could reach a tower with 50 watts from 500 miles away, your phones response time would be to slow and the call would be dropped anyway, see?
Anything over a certain wattage beyond a few miles is useless because of this no matter how much output power you have! The delay between your phone and the tower makes high wattage phones not worth the effort.
If you are reading and understanding the information from this website, you will do very well with 3 watts and the proper antenna and amplifier combination anyway! Some countries like in europe have some car phones that have up to 8 watts of power because beyond that it's useless too. 8 watts works when cell towers are far and few between, but after so many miles, any increase in distance has it's drawbacks.
Most phones in foreign countries have 3 watts also in digital formats. Analog phones can go up to 8 watts but even for analog, beyond 8 watts, the same problems arise with analog that occur with digital!
your cell phone and considerations during ocean travel.
You should never rely solely on your cell phone if you go out to sea. the same holds true for Satellite phones too. The reason is because if you need help, only the person on the other end can hear you!
Most marine voyagers and watercraft owners who set sail on the high seas carry a VHF marine radio because if you need to call for help, everyone on the radio can hear you. that includes those who could be boating within your vicinity who could come to your aid in a time of crisis.
Your cell phone should go with you, but as an additional accessory only. The link below on this website is a must read if you are unfamiliar with traveling at sea, especially if your going out the first time on your own.
