I've also been told by pda owners that battery life is a little longer in GSM served pda's because the antenna only puts out a larger amount of power to send and receive the data and the rest of the time it is idle.

However, CDMA based pda's have seen an improvement in battery capabilities in the last few years and a big change in battery capacity. Pda's are much more complex than standard cell phones both in design and functionality. For these reasons, issues of connectivity are even more complex.
