Cellular phones, wireless antennas, electronics and other gadgets and how they fuel my fascination with them!

Well, I have this fascination with "what makes it tick". I know cellular phones always interested me because telephones interested me as a kid!

I would find them at junk stores, buy them, take them home and pull them apart!

I learned a lot and since my fascination with radio and having fun with dx'ing (dx'ing means tweaking your antenna to see how far away you could pick up radio stations).

I used to play board games with other people from around the world on short wave radio! When cell phones first came out, I was immediately interested and had to find out more about these devices. I bought one just to call everyone I knew so I could figure out how it worked.

I immediately started figuring out how to start dx'ing my phone seeing how far I could make it demand the cell towers attention. Experimenting with antennas, measuring power output and tweaking my cell phone reception with mast mounted television antennas!

Rotating TV antennas on a mast were what I was after!

I had no idea at the time that this was the basic principle of the Yagi antenna. Being able to point your antenna in the direction of the cell tower to boost your signal strength!

I currently have a Motorola Bag phone with a variety of antennas and I experiment in how to get the best cellular reception through my cellular phone. I travel a lot for a living and for fun and need to be in touch even in the most remote locations so playing with these toys, er, tools comes naturally.

I've been very successful in this endeavor and have even used these tools to report an accident I happened on to while travalling. The 911 operator could not believe I got cellular phone reception from 108 miles from a cell tower!

I still experiment with radio as well as cell phones and I enjoy electronics in general. In fact, I've never met an electronic device I didn't like!

Anyone know where I can find an old 1964 Motorola MTS?

I've even been known to experiment and build devices with old glass electron tubes! This has been a passion ever since I could remember and I keep adding to my collection of toys, er, tools and call my friends just to find out "whe're you at?".

I've even been knbown to post information on this subjct with my laptop in some pretty remote locations while camping! (when I get bored or when everyone else has gone to bed!)
