Cell phone history and mobile phones with pictures!
1973 Motorola cell phone
This decription of cell phone history shows how far we've come! These cell phones were a market campaign ad for Motorola in 1973. I remember these old brick cell phones! The cell phones history changed dramatically with these new phones.
The battery life was longer than phones of today but, they did not have so many options as we do now. No downloadable ringtones for instance! My gosh, all you could do on these was talk! This was considered the newest generation of mobile phones even though it weighed a few pounds. Cost for this phone in 1973....$3,995.00! What a bargain! Still think your cell phone is expensive?
Cellphone history made possible by Hollywood actress Hedy Lamar!
And do you know who we have to thank for this technology? Movie actress Hedy Lamar! I'll bet you didn't know that did you? That's right! Not only was Hedy Lamar a gorgeous actress, but she was incredibly intelligent as well and was the first to come up with the idea of mobile phones in vehicles where we could make a call while driving and be handed off from one cell phone tower to the next while driving along! Now this was a real first step in cell phone history!

Her first invention for communications was called the "Secret Communications System" was an idea about a system to solve the problem of our enemies from blocking the signals from radio controlled missiles during World War II! It involved changing and rotating radio fruequencies simultaneously which would prevent our enemies from being able to detect the messages!
While the technology of the time didn't make this easy or very feasible, later technologies such as the invention of the transistor made her remarkable invention invaluable to the cell phone and mobile phone industry.
For her dedication to the project and and her intelligence, she was deemed the most beautiful and intelligent woman in hollywood! One look at her and you can see why. She mesmerised audiences all around the world, both with her beauty and her intelligence!

Creative 1960's rotary converted to a cell phone
What's up with that phone? Surely your not going to tell me that's a mobile phone! You bet it is! Ok, this is a creation of a techie geeks version of what he wanted in a mobile phone! This was an old 1960's phone that had it's inside parts partially removed and cell phone circuits installed in their place.
It is fully functional. Batteries are in the rear of the case, handset has been modified with the correct ear and mouthpiece, antenna is inside the case and the rotary dialer has a pulse to touch tone converter for cell phone use!
Kinda cool! And I thought I had too much time on my hands! Cell phone history is often advanced because of technology geeks like this whose tinkering and ideas became part of the cell phone you have now!

A new cell phone for the toy enthusiast
I've never seen one of these cell phones yet but why not? The dolls arms are the antenna, the batteries are in the legs, stomach area is the innards of a working cell phone! You talk into his belly button, listen through his mouth and read the information off of the screen on his chest!
Really cute and imaginative! Cell phone history might be made here because of the way this cell phone is marketed as a toy even though it has all the functionality of a cell phone!

A serious cell phone for remote locations that means business
This is a new bag phone, the Motorola M800. Mine is like this. Cell phone history became altered and advanced once again with the introduction of bag phones again by Motorola! It has been set up for CDMA service and has analog capabilities as well because analog signals do so well in rural areas.
It features a maximum of 2 watts of antenna power and comes in really handy in remote areas with a long distance antenna and a Yagi antenna. This cell phone was what I used when I had to call for emergency services to report an accident in Arizona on Highway 93.
I am not exactly sure how far the cell phone tower was from me, but according to the operator, who was in Wickenburg, I was about 108 miles northwest of there! These were ideal conditions though!
I was high on the mountain top and looking down onto the direction of Wickenburg and just aimed the Yagi Antenna toward Wickenburg's location and got a signal lock! This mobile phone is available from Alltell wireless. It is capable of both analog and digital service.
