Cell phone antennas installed in vehicle and building both direct connections and repeater connections.

Both of these cell phone antennas have one thing in common, they require a direct connection to your cell phone. While this can be an advantage in some really remote fringe areas where reception is hard to access, most will want the repeater type of installation because it gives you freedom of movement without the wire.

These cell phone antennas will have a connection on the back of the phone on most, but if yours does not, there is a universal attachment, usually with velcro that you can apply to your phone. Some will prefer this, but there will be a specialty wire accessory to accomodate this type of installation.

This is the most preferred type of cell phone antenna installation in a moving vehicle. You can put the repeater antenna (the one on the inside) anywhere you like. In this instance it is located on the drivers side headrest because this is where your phone would be held if you are driving with out a handsfree device.

Several states already have laws requiring a handsfree phone and in that case, you would put your repeater antenna on the dash somewhere. Since most likely more states and countries will go handsfree for obvious safety reasons. A handsfree phone would be best and with a repeater on your dash, all your pasengers would be able to use your antenna and amplifier! (Providing all are using the same type of service, GSM for instance)

Note the difference between the direct connection and the repeater!

The click here links have been disabled until we have part numbers to refer you to. This type of antenna installation works very well inside your home or other building. Notice the Yagi antenna on the roof of the second picture to the right? It is on the picture of the direct connected antenna, but these will work just as well as a repeater installation. These work great when you know what direction your cell tower is.

Some gadget geeks I've talked to claim they have used this setup to get service from as far away as 75 miles! Talk about fine tuning! They have a tall tripod, like a satellite dish tripod, with a mount that's height adjustable with a Yagi antenna on top! Also notice that your PDA, cell phone and wireless card in your computer can ALL access this system and use it to full advantage! This is how most marine antenna applications are setup.
