Car Phones!

Car phones! Are they going to make a comeback?

Car phones making a comeback? Well, even that one suprised me, but it seems that in car mobile telephones are once again gaining appeal! Didn't those things go out of style in the 1980's? Well yes, but the reasons these are again becoming popular are clear, first it's a matter of call quality. I have to admit I have one myself for this reason. My in car mobile has the same voice quality as my home phone and when my cell phone batteries are dead, my in car mobile phone still works!

Second, your little cell phone, while convenient because it fits in your pocket, only has 1/2 watt of antenna power and this is good. I mentioned in other sections about how having a full 3 watts of output power that close to your head is not a good idea!

A car phone has a longer range than a cell phone since it can use all 3 of those watts to hold onto a call. Your car phone antenna is not next to your head. It will either be on the trunk lid or on the roof with the trunk being the most often used location because of the ease of installation and convenience. Cellular service has a better opportunity to reach your phone since these antennas mounted on cars, trucks and even boats tend to be larger and more conspicuous. These antenna types are always a mast and broadcast/receive in a circular pattern making then good for travelling and mobile communications in an on the move environment!

Third is battery life! Actually this one has been a lifesaver for me since my car phone has virtually unlimited talk time because of the vehicle battery size. I can connect my laptop, surf the net and read my email and even find a good place for that seafood dinner and make reservations with that special someone!

Fourth is the fact that more and more cities are banning hand held cellphone usage while driving. You can still however make a call and talk with a handsfree device. It has been my experience however that the sound quality is not nearly as good with portable cell phones using the speakerphone option.

This problem is eliminated with an in car mobile like the Motorola M900 or M800. The M900 Motorola in car phone is a GSM model and the Motorola M800 is a CDMA/Analog combination model. Analog services, if they are still available will not be for long! Remember that if your in the market for an in car mobile. Next is price. These are not as expensive as they once were and you can add another line to your family plan with an in car mobile phone for as little as $9.95 monthly! Many families are getting these because this is now affordable and with enhanced E911 service, you can be located with your cell phone service signals even if you are lost and have no idea where you are!
